THE ASIAN STARS QUIETLY DOMINATING NYFW'S FRONT ROWS
From Coach's Japanese ambassadors to Ralph Lauren's Kiko Mizuhara, this season's front rows looked genuinely global.

American fashion has long treated its own front rows as a fairly domestic affair, but this season's NYFW guest lists tell a more international story - particularly when it comes to the Asian stars turning up across the week's biggest shows.

At Coach's 85th anniversary show, Japanese guests turned out in real numbers: brand ambassador Lilas Ikuta was joined by KOHARU, Haruka Fukuhara and Jyutaro Yamanaka, sitting alongside global ambassador Elle Fanning in a front row built as much around Coach's growing Japanese fanbase as its American one. At Ralph Lauren's opening show, model and actor Kiko Mizuhara turned up in a grey blazer and wide-leg trousers, one of several looks from the show's front row that circulated widely online in the days after. Blackpink's Jisoo, meanwhile, closed out the week's Asian-star presence at Tommy Hilfiger's Plaza Hotel comeback show, dressed in the house's preppy signatures.

None of this is entirely new - Asian stars have been fixtures of the biggest European shows for several seasons now - but the consistency of the pattern across multiple, unrelated New York houses this particular week suggests something more structural than a handful of isolated bookings. Casting directors and PR teams building a front row increasingly seem to treat Asian markets, and specifically the K-pop and J-pop fan economies attached to them, as core to a show's social media reach rather than a supplementary consideration.
Whether that shift eventually shows up in who actually walks these runways, rather than who simply sits in front of them, remains the more interesting open question for seasons to come.
