Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo's Autumn/Winter 2026 edition, held 16 to 21 March primarily at Shibuya Hikarie, doubled as a 20th-anniversary celebration for the Japan Fashion Week Organisation.

To mark the milestone, organisers introduced 'Incubation Shows', a new category built specifically to support student designers and emerging fashion groups, alongside expanded international partnerships including the Bench Design Awards in the Philippines and the Global Fashion Collective — both aimed at bringing more non-Japanese designers onto the Tokyo stage. yoshiokubo made headlines within the week by collaborating with Olympic-level breakdancers on clothing engineered specifically for high-performance movement, a literal answer to the brand's 'Tailored for Movement' theme.

Two decades in, Tokyo's fashion week appears less interested in competing head-on with Paris or Milan and more focused on building out its own distinct identity as a launchpad for Asia-Pacific design talent.
