National Gallery Singapore's 2026 exhibition programme reads as unusually ambitious even by the institution's own standards.
'Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston' brings Impressionist masterworks to Singapore for the first time, running alongside 'Fear No Power: Women Imagining Otherwise', a group exhibition connecting five Southeast Asian women artists, and 'Diplomacy and Desire: Basoeki Abdullah in Singapore', a politically charged look at the Indonesian painter's local ties. Newer commissions include Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier's spectral installation 'Eidolon' and Tuan Andrew Nguyen's participatory rooftop work 'Temple', which transforms war remnants into sound and reflection.
Taken together, the programme moves fluidly between the global and the local, and between historical survey and contemporary commission a balancing act the Gallery has increasingly made its signature.
