London designers mix heritage, couture technique and modern street references

London Fashion Week’s SS27 schedule showed how varied the city’s design language has become. Simone Rocha and Erdem remained prominent examples of independent British fashion, while Tolu Coker opened the week with “Survivor’s Remorse,” a collection exploring British identity alongside her Nigerian heritage.

The British Fashion Council’s official schedule placed these designers alongside major houses and emerging names. Rocha continued to combine contrasting references and elaborate finishing, while Erdem worked with historical codes and contemporary wardrobe pieces. Coker used a recreated London street environment to frame her collection as a conversation about identity, memory and belonging.

The broader picture is one of coexistence rather than a single London trend. Established designers are drawing on archives and art history, while younger labels are addressing culture and personal experience. This combination remains one of the defining characteristics of London’s fashion ecosystem.
