Inside the $6.5 Million Diamond Christie's Called a First

Christie's does not use the word 'largest' lightly, so it was worth noting when the auction house described the Azure Blue a 31.62-carat fancy blue pear-shaped diamond as the largest fancy blue diamond ever offered at auction.

It headlined the Magnificent Jewels sale at Rockefeller Center on 9 June 2026, alongside a smaller but no less serious 5.04-carat fancy vivid blue marquise carrying an identical pre-sale estimate of US$6.5 to $8.5 million.

Blue diamonds make up only a sliver of an already rare category — colour diamonds account for roughly a tenth of all diamonds mined, and blue for a tenth of those — which is precisely why a single auction offering two of them in one room counts as an event in itself.
