AUDEMARS PIGUET'S NEW JUMPING HOUR SHOWS THE BARE MINIMUM OF TIME
The Neo Frame Jumping Hour perfects a complication Cartier revisited just last year.

Audemars Piguet got a jump -in more ways than one - on this year's Watches and Wonders cycle, launching its Neo Frame Jumping Hour ahead of the official show dates.
The novelty hasn't worn off in the months since: the watch displays a square window at 12 o'clock for the jumping hour and minutes within a curved aperture at 6, offering what reviewers describe as the bare minimum of timekeeping information necessary, with everything else on the dial rendered in either sapphire crystal bonded to a black dial plate or rose gold.
The piece functions as a technical refinement of a complication Cartier had revisited the previous year with its Tank Cintrée's instantaneous hour display - watch industry commentary describes AP's version as perfecting rather than simply reinterpreting that same underlying jump-hour concept. Powering the watch is AP's newly developed Caliber 7122, which brings meaningful shock resistance improvements to the traditionally delicate jump-hour mechanism - a genuine engineering advance that makes what might otherwise read as a purely occasional, careful-wear dress piece into something reviewers suggest could plausibly function as a daily wearer despite its technical complexity.
The watch's restrained information display - hours and minutes only, nothing else competing for attention on the dial - places it in deliberate contrast against AP's own more maximalist Royal Oak Jumbo variants, offering collectors a genuinely different Audemars Piguet ownership experience built around minimalism and mechanical purity rather than the brand's more instantly recognisable integrated-bracelet sports watch identity.
For a house best known globally for the Royal Oak, a complication this focused on stripping information down to its essentials, rather than adding further mechanical spectacle, demonstrates a different register of the brand's technical range worth taking seriously alongside its flagship sports watch line.
