Asia's Fashion Capitals, Compared: Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai
Three cities, three very different fashion week identities and increasingly, three distinct calendar slots.

Put Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai's fashion weeks side by side and the differences are more instructive than the similarities.
Tokyo, marking its Fashion Week Organisation's 20th anniversary this year, leans on Japan's design heritage and an increasingly international incubation model for emerging talent. Seoul, now 25 years in, has built its identity around street-fashion energy centred on Dongdaemun Design Plaza and an explicit strategy of riding K-pop and K-drama's global cultural reach.
Shanghai, meanwhile, has carved out its own calendar slots adjacent to the traditional 'Big Four' cities, positioning itself as China's commercial gateway to international buyers. None of the three is trying to become Paris and that's precisely the point: each has built a genuinely distinct value proposition rather than competing for the same seat at fashion's traditional top table.
