ALEXANDER MCQUEEN COMES HOME TO LONDON AFTER MORE THAN 20 YEARS

Alexander McQueen's return to the official London Fashion Week calendar for Spring/Summer 2027 carries genuine historical weight: the house, founded by the late Lee Alexander McQueen in London itself, has shown exclusively in Paris since 2001, making this season's presentation its first London runway appearance in more than two decades.

The show, staged 20 September, marks the London debut specifically of Seán McGirr, the Irish designer who took over as creative director following Sarah Burton's departure, and covers both menswear and womenswear under his direction - a comprehensive presentation rather than a scaled-back reintroduction, suggesting the house is treating the London return as a genuine full statement rather than a cautious toe back into the city that built its original identity.

The symbolism of the homecoming is difficult to overstate for a brand whose founder built his early reputation specifically on London's more confrontational, art-school fashion scene before the house's later relocation to Paris alongside its acquisition by what is now Kering.

A return to showing in the city of McQueen's own training and earliest shows - even under entirely new creative leadership decades removed from the founder's own tenure - reads as a deliberate reconnection with the brand's origins, staged at a moment when McGirr is still working to establish his own distinct creative identity at the house.

For London Fashion Week itself, securing a show of this scale and historical significance represents one of the clearest wins the BFC has landed in years - proof that the city can still draw major international houses back, even after losing them to other fashion capitals for a generation.
